Abstract: |
The monitoring involved the observation and recording of four trial trenches excavated over the bridge piers on the southern side of Catterick Bridge. The mortar bonded stone structure of the bridge piers was encountered in three of the four trial trenches. In addition it was clear that the make-up layers beneath the modern road surface on the medieval side of the bridge differed substantially from those on the side of the 18th century widening. [Au] |
