Abstract: |
Desk-based study supported by fieldwalking survey of an area of land proposed for development indicated that mining and the recent construction of a watermain would have severly degraded any extant archaeological remains. Artefacts from the prehistoric, Roman and medieval periods were recovered from only 2 of the 7 fields walked within the proposed development area. The densities of the finds were sufficient to suggest that they were not merely casual losses, but further work would be required to assess their signficance. [Au(adp)] |
