Abstract:		 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks associated with the construction of extensions to the rear of The Granary. The site lay within an area of known archaeological remains dating from the Romano-British through to the post-medieval period. During the groundworks a series of post medieval make up deposits, a larger refuse or cess pit, a possible fire pit and a small pit of uncertain function were recorded. A modern sewer traversed the site and a large amount of recent modern disturbance was noted at the north end of the site. Finds of medieval, post-medieval and modern pottery, brick and bone were recovered from the site. Post-medieval finds including a copper alloy pin fragment, a sherd of window glass and two iron nails were also recovered from the site. A carved stone head of possible medieval date was observed, incorporated into the structure of The Granary. [Au(abr)]
