Abstract: |
The geophysical data was dominated by parallel linear anomalies indicative of ridge and furrow cultivation. These had a north-south and east-west orientation and corresponded well with the earthwork evidence. A few anomalies and trends showed some regularity and may have indicated two series of enclosures, however, the majority of these responses were weak and modern agricultural activity, such as temporary livestock pens, may have accounted for these responses. Small pit type anomalies have been identified throughout the data, however they could not be clearly categorized as archaeology. Therefore, natural or pedological variations in the subsoil were likely to have been responsible for all or some of these responses. The same conclusion could be applied to two sinuous linear anomalies which may have some archaeological significance but were more likely to represent the line of a former water course or natural variations in the subsoil. Other data was too weak to be identified and was therefore assumed to be natural in origin. [Au(adp)] |
