Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation for the foundations of the western wing and the porch for the eastern wing. Several large pits of earlier medieval date, possibly for the extraction of gravel, were found in the area of the new west wing. Undated pits found in Trench 2 predated the large rectangular stone building, which was shown on maps dated 1665 and 1726. A smaller but wider rectangular brick and stone building was then added on to Harcourt House, which contained a kitchen. [Au(abr)] |
