Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the replacement of sewers along the High Street in the medieval town of Stone. A priory had lain at the south-east end of the town from at least the 12th century. During the watching brief, a dark humic deposit thought to have predated the foundation of the borough in the late 13th or early 14th century was observed. Workmen reported finding bones within this deposit, but no artefacts were recovered by the archaeologist. [AIP] |
