Abstract: |
<summary>An archaeological assessment of a site lying within the historic townships of Horton and Bebside was carried out. Documentary, cartographic and aerial photographic sources were studied. The historical and archaeological evidence suggested five principal phases of activity at the site from the 12th-14th centuries to the early 19th century. Features identified included ridge and furrow, a grotto, a pond, and the first Northumbrian waggonway system. An examination of the crop mark evidence also revealed a double enclosure, possibly a homestead dating to the Iron Age or Roman period. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
