Abstract: |
Two small trenches were excavated to examine the foundations of two piers in the Chapter House that had been toppled by vandals. The aim was to formulate a suitable method for their re-erection. In February 1996 the trenches were enlarged to allow new concrete foundations for the pillars to be constructed, and each pier was attached to its base with stainless steel dowels. The re-erection of the piers was supervised by LUAU to ensure their correct orientation in respect of the vault springers on the Chapter House walls. [Au(abr)] |
