Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on the site of a proposed residential development. The development area was situated approximately 75m west of Moulsham Street (the former Roman London to Colchester road), on the outskirts of the Roman town of Caesaromagus. Whilst the site lay outside of the second-century defences of the town, it was thought possible that evidence for extramural activities lay within the development area. Two 28m long evaluation trenches were excavated on the proposed development area. No archaeological features or deposits were identified in either trench, although four fragments of pottery were found in trench A and were dated as post second-century AD Roman pottery. [Au(abr)] |
