Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out at the Manor School site. The study site was enclosed by field boundaries laid out during the late 18th century. There was no archaeological documentary or cartographic evidence for early activity within the area of proposed development. No formal archaeological investigation of this area had previously been undertaken and cartographic sources prior to the mid-19th century were scarce. There was a possibility for the presence of sub-surface archaeology. Analysis of aerial photographs identified extensive evidence of medieval activity and possible Iron Age occupation within the study area and there was potential for the discovery of archaeological deposits of these periods within the area of proposed development.
