Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment of the site was undertaken prior to the determination of planning permission for the residential development of the site. The report identified that formerly the site had a moderate archaeological potential for the later prehistoric and Roman periods and a low archaeological potential for all other past periods of human activity. Now, however, its archaeological potential for all periods was low. The past post-depositional impacts on any archaeological remains present on the site were categorised as severe. Terracing was likely to have had a severe impact and it was improbable that any archaeological remains had survived beneath the footprints of the existing buildings. The report recommended that an evaluation be undertaken in the principal area of existing open space. On the remainder of the site the report did not recommend the implementation of any further archaeological mitigation measures. [Au(adp)] |
