Abstract: |
Monitoring of excavation trenches associated with a refurbishment of the former rectory and the addition of new outbuildings and garden features, produced evidence of medieval occupation consistent with the date of the existing building. The evidence appeared to be consistent with that recovered from a nearby site, Charrington's Coal Yard, which suggested that this part of Clare was not occupied before the late 11th - early 12th century, when pits associated with buildings fronting the High Street were excavated at the rear of the properties.
