Abstract: |
A watching brief produced evidence for the original layout of the building when constructed in the 1630s as an open hall between two cross-wings. This hall was interpreted as a space for an exercising horse. A stone-lined and capped culvert of uncertain date (although containing silt and late 19th century material) ran the length of the hall. As part of refurbishment in the late 19th-early 20th century a floor of large stones was set in place prior to the more recent subdivision of the hall. [Au(abr)] |
