Abstract: |
Desktop survey, undertaken in 1993, was further enhanced by a walkover survey of the area of the proposed road corridor (from Golborne David parish to Handley Parish). The work was undertaken as part of an Environmental Assessment for the road improvement scheme. The study identified that no scheduled ancient monuments or other sites of national or regional importance lay within the road corridor. Aerial photographs showed evidence of extensive pre-enclosure arable field systems preserved in many of the present day pasture fields. Walkover survey confirmed that substantial ridge and furrow survived in four fields affected by the road corridor together with the remains of four marl pits. The study also identified tht five listed buidlings lay within 200m of the proposed road corridor. [Au(adp)] |
