Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the proposed construction of a new sheltered housing complex of retirement homes. The report concluded that the archaeological potential of the study site for the prehistoric and Roman periods could probably be defined as low. The archaeological potential of the study site for the Anglo-Saxon-early medieval periods was defined as low. The archaeological potential of the study site for the late medieval and post-medieval periods was defined as high. The survival of any archaeological deposits on site was likely to have been seriously compromised by the existing laundry with widespread areas of severe truncation. Development of the site prior to 1912 was likely to have caused severe but highly localised archaeological impacts. [Au(adp)] |
