Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during works at a site, which lay within the core of medieval Stafford. Observations made during the watching brief indicated that at the time of the Norman Conquest or soon after, the rear of the two burgage plots forming the site had been used for the disposal of rubbish and cess. A cesspit of possible 17th century date was also noted. No evidence of yard surfaces, structures in situ or industrial activity was found. However, it was noted that negative features could be used for industrial purposes before being re-used for rubbish disposal. [Au(adp)] |
