Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained along the route of a new water mains pipeline running north from Boon Hills Farm, Nether Langwith to the junction with the A632. Although ridge and furrow earthworks survived in fields either side of a canal mill race dating from about 1800, they had not survived where the trackway, alongside which the pipeline was to run, crossed the canal. During the watching brief a medieval ploughsoil was revealed in this area probably representing the heavily eroded remnants of ridge and furrow destroyed during the construction of the canal and use of the trackway.
