Abstract:		 A desk-based assessment was commissioned of the site of the proposed Phase II Poundbury Development, alongside Bridport Road. The assessment demonstrated the highest potential for artefact scatters and archaeological deposits of prehistoric and especially Bronze Age date to be preserved within the extent of the site.There was also high potential for remnants of Bronze Age ditched field boundaries and other associated features, such as settlement remains. The Roman road from Dorchester to Exeter occurred within the proposed development area, but it was considered unlikely that any significant remains still survived. Substantial quantities of Neolithic to Early Bronze Age worked flint occurred in the south of the site. The farm complexes of Middle Farm and Poundbury Farm within the study area were both probably established in the last quarter of the 19th century. [Au(abr)]
