Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out on the building of a new Scout and Guide building. This is on the site of the supposed site of St Helen's Church and a Manor House. A multiplicity of walls were intersected by the trenches showing that a complex of medieval buildings underlie the area. The lack of occupation debris may be partly explicable by the remains being part of the chapel rather than the domestic buildings of the manor house. The dedication of the church to St Helen suggests a pre-Conquest date for the church. [Au(adp)] |
