Abstract: |
The assessment formed the first step of a staged archaeolgical evaluation, and considered the whole Scheme Are plus Study Area of approximately 500 metres around in order to place the results in a broader contextual setting. Fifteen sites of archaeological importance were recorded within the Scheme Area or immediately adjacent to it. They ranged in date from the remains of a plough-damaged Neolithic long barrow to a post-medieval toll house. Bronze Age funerary and settlement activityhad been identified within the Scheme Area as had the routes of three Roman roads with associated features. A further 55 sites of archaeologica or historical interest hd been identified in the StudyArea. [Au(adp)] |
