Abstract: |
24 trial trenches were excavated across the site as part of Phase II of an archaeological evaluation in order to fulfil a condition upon planning consent. These trenches were specifically located across the areas of the new buildings, the proposed link road, the former boundaries and a proposed balancing pond to the south of the Rags Brook, as well as to achieve a broad coverage of the site. No archaeoogical features were located during the evaluation. The construction (and subsequent demolition) of the glasshouses and access roads had disturbed some areas of the site to the level of the natural clay. No archaeological evidence of early boundaries was identified. Phase II, like the desk-based assessment and Phase I evaluation, recorded no archaeological features within the areas of development.
