Abstract: |
No archaeological sites of regional or national importance have been identified within the area of the quarry extensions, although the site of a post-medieval building, known as Gregory's Lodge, and a small post-medieval quarry were identified within that area. However, the discovery of a Bronze Age barrow and of Iron Age and later features associated with iron smelting in adjacent areas immediately to the west suggested that the quarry extension area had a moderate to high potential to contain previously unrecorded archaeological remains of prehistoric, Roman and early medieval date.
