Abstract: |
The assessment identified in situ Roman remains, which may have been associated with a palaeochannel, which appeared to cross the site. The archaeological potential for the post-Roman periods was defined as low or very low. The site almost certainly lay within agricultural land throughout these periods until c.1800. The bulk of the site was not developed until after the First World War. A geotechnical investigation had indicated that the construction of the bus garage had had a severe impact on any underlying archaeological remains. Elsewhere on the site building footings, service runs and fuel tanks were likely to have had a severe but localised impact on any underlying archaeological deposits. [Au(adp)] |
