Abstract: |
A brief Level 1 survey of the estate was carried out to complement an architectural survey. The survey discussed the possibility of the medieval deer park bearing no similarity to the modern park boundary. The road pattern, however, was not thought to have changed substantially since the medieval period, with any slight changes evident as earthworks. Ornamental parkland features were present. Numerous quarries, probably chalkpits, occupied the site. Evidence for clay extraction was evident in the "Brickfields" place name. [Au(adp)] |
