Abstract: |
Following the discovery of four human skulls during gravel extraction operations archaeological recording was undertaken. Assessment for further archaeological remains revealed further bone remains in situ, within the broad context of a palaeochannel. The majority of bone material was jumbled and exhibited no standard pattern of burial although several partially articulated remains were discovered. Superficial field identification of the remains suggested the presence of adults and juvenilesm together with animal bones possibly of sheep, cow and dog. There was a noticeable concentration of bone around two fragments of wood, possibly indicating that some material was trapped in a river channel debris jam. [Au] |
