Abstract: |
The site at Warndon Court Farm comprises the integrated elements of a medieval moated manorial site which developed around a church of possible Saxon origin. It is considered to be one of the most important archaeological sites in Worcester's hinterland. The evaluation, which included geophysical survey as well as excavation, identified deposits dating from the mid-18th century to the present day. Evidence of timber and brick buildings and yard surfaces was revealed. The post-medieval sequence provided an artefactual assemblage that included residual medieval pottery, floor and roof tile; this provides tentative evidence of a medieval building or buildings on the site, albeit at an as yet unknown location. The site is a designated Conservation Area. It is registered as an area of archaeological interest and is covered by Worcester City Council's planning policies on archaeology and development.[AIP]\n |
