Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in relation to proposals for residential development. The site was not located within a priority archaeological zone as defined in the Borough's Unitary Plan. The English Heritage archaeological officer had drawn attention to the sites archaeological potential for the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic. The archaeological potential for the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman periods could be defined as moderate. The potential for evidence from the Saxon, early-medieval, medieval and post-medieval periods was thought to be low. Past post-depositional impacts on the site were thought likely to have been extremely severe and it was thought unlikely that well preserved archaeological deposits would be present. As a result it was considered unlikely that the proposed development would have any archaeological impact and for this reason no further archaeological mitigation measures were recommended.
