Abstract: |
An archaeological desktop survey was undertaken in order to assess the archaeological potential of a c.10,1000 sq. m. area of land located c.0.5km south of the village of Flixton. The survey determined that there was a considerable density of archaeological remains in the near vicinity, providing good potential for the study of subsurface features and deposits representing most archaeological periods. The study also established that there was considerable potential scope for historical research in the form of cartographic and documentary evidence. In order that a mitigation strategy (addressing the potential threat to any surviving archaeological remains) could be formulated, a programme of archaeological evaluation work was recommended. This evaluation would inform decisions to be made by the Local Planning Authority. [Au(abr)] |
