Abstract: |
Conditional planning consent for the erection of a dwelling required the monitoring of both auger holes and removal of topsoil from the proposed building footprint. The site lay within the double medieval moat of Gisleham Manor, classified as a SAM. Although only one incised feature (a ditch) was observed within the stripped area, finds from the ditch and worked stone from the machined surface were indicative of high status occupation during the late medieval period and was consistent with its location in a moated manor. The finds from the ditch indicated that it was being filled by domestic refuse during the 15-16th century. [Au(adp)] |
