Abstract: |
The evaluation was in response to proposed student accommodation at the former Thames Water depot. A layer of rubble was revealed within the Castle Ditch that may have acted as a ford or wier at the point where the ditch met the Mill Stream. A channel forming part of a possible 16th century sluice house was seen, into which a later brick culvert had been constructed. A possible 18th century pitched stone surface was encountered, cut by a large 19th century feature. Both were thought to be related to the sluice house. [Au(abr)] |
