Abstract: |
A single evaluation trench was mechanically excavated to the south of Tortington Priory Barn. The foundations of a wall were encountered and their orientation and character suggested that it carried the south wall of the nave of the Priory Church. After recording and inspection the trench was backfilled. A study of the western wall of a former shelter shed, which ran southward from the western end of the barn, showed it to contain medieval masonry in its lower courses. This was thought to be the remains of the western end of the nave. [Au(abr)] |
