Abstract: |
Geophsycial survey and the excavation of trial boxes on land proposed for development revealed few firm traces of human activity. Most of the features identified were of probable natural origin. However, at the northwestern corner of the site, a buried ancient soil deposit was revealed. The soil yielded fragments of Bronze Age pottery, several flint artefacts and animal bones. A small number of possible gullies were also identified toward the same northwestern corner of the field. Cumulatively, the evidence suggested that an Early Bronze Age settlement was located in the proximity, although perhaps just to the north or west of the area investigated. [Au(abr)] |
