Abstract: |
A site visit was undertaken to assess the status of an area of ground subject to a proposal to undertake landfill operations. The site lay in the northern part of Stock Wood, an area of visible evidence of early iron ore extraction surface workings, known as scowles. The topography of the application site was found to consist of large irregular hollows, pockmarked with mounds of spoil, clearly representing a post-quarrying landscape. The site was interpreted as a continuation of the scowles to the south. [Au(abr)] |
