Abstract: |
A level III building survey, in advance of demolition, revealed structural evidence for a timber-framed, cross-winged open hall with jettied cross-bay of probable 15th century origin. This early fabric had been incorporated and lost within a substantial rebuilding and enlargement of the structure in the later 19th century, at which time an adjacent and presumably similar building was removed. The 19th century plan-form comprising shop with domestic accommodation and workshop remained complete save for minor interior alteration. The building was demolished in early May 1995 in advance of road construction. [Au(abr)] |
