Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation of 11.5ha of land was carried out, due to development proposals. The geophysical survey identified several magnetic anomalies of possible archaeological or geological origin near the brook. In contrast, the area to the south of the pond was very disturbed due to the former use of the area for allotments. Due to the very high water table, it was only possible to fully open 10 of the 18 trenches proposed. Only two of the trenches in the lower northern part of the site, towards the brook, could be opened, a third was quickly abandoned due to rapid water inundation. Traces of a narrow ditch and several possible pits were identified in the area to the north of the pond. All but one of the features identified to the south of the pond appeared to be modern activity, associated with the former use of the area as allotments. The other feature, a post-medieval ditch, could not be correlated with any known land divisions. [Au(abr)] |
