Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment identified that the site of the former New Stubbin Colliery, proposed for opencast coal mining, contained a section of the linear earthwork known as The Roman Ridge. It was also shown that the application area had been a focus of coal working from the middle ages until the 1970's and that ironstone and clay extraction had also taken place. No upstanding buildings associated with the modern colliery remained although hardstandings and rough grassland covered much of the former colliery site. [AIP] |
