Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a driving range for a golf course identified that no archaeological remains had been recorded within the development area itself, and that sites in the immediate vicinity were sparse and did not hint at intense pre-modern occupation or other activity. Examination of 18th century and later maps revealed no evidence of occupation at the site, although a moated farm had lain to the west, indicating that the land may have been farmed. It was concluded that the site had a low archaeological potential, but that a watching brief should be carried out during construction works in view of the size of the area involved and the nature of the proposed disturbance.
