Abstract: |
Observation of building work in the west range over one of the medieval service rooms south of the great hall of the Scheduled Castle (Warwickshire Monument 21561) was undertaken in order to fulfil a condition upon planning permission. This revealed a north-south wall footing, parallel to the curtain wall, and at least 0.4m of undisturbed stratigraphy, sealed by 18th century layers which probably represented the surface left after debris from the fire of 1762 had been removed.
