Abstract: |
Three trial trenches were excavated as an evaluation in response to a condition upon planning permission for the construction of five detached houses and associated garages and parking. A pit and a ditch terminus/pit were recorded in Trenches 1 and 2, cut into to the natural sand. Neither contained finds and were thus undated. The natural sand in trench 3 was highly erratic with irregular patches of darker orange sand, probably derived from periglacial activity. Two possible features were identified within this area, although their fills indicated that they were probably of natural origin. A very small quantity of residual struck flint was recovered from the subsoil, along with a fragment of brick and tile/ fired daub. No other archaeological features or finds were encountered.
