Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken on land proposed for development. Eleven trial trenches revealed a concentration of Romano-British activity dating from the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. The remains took the form of linear ditches subject to frequent recutting, a number of pits and several midden spreads. It was suggested that an agricultural settlement was located in close proximity and that the ditches drained and demarcated systems of fields or paddocks. Post-medieval ditches and foundations and a palaeochannel were also seen. A small number of worked flint artefacts found in residual contexts north of the road may have indicated activity of later Neolithic date. [Au(abr)] |
