Abstract: |
Five trenches were mechanically excavated across the site. These identified a large feature which was interpreted as the remains of fishponds, which were documented in the area, and had been suggested to be part of the site of an Augustinian Friary complex founded in 1331. This feature was partially infilled with building materials and an architectural stone fragment was also found in the vicinity. Later deposits included large scale dumping on the site of redeposited clays, interpreted as resulting from the construction of the canal in the 18th century. [Au(abr)] |
