Abstract: |
The archaeological watching brief demonstrated that the site had occupied reclaimed land; the area had previously been the location of a curve in the course of the River Witham, which was in-filled when the watercourse was straightened in 1826. Medieval sculpture discovered in the garden of the neighbouring property was likely to have been imported, coming up the river as ballast in one of the many ships using the Haven in the 19th century.
