Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken in advance of the excavation of a fishing lake. The site lay on the edge of the expanses of former peat fen in the south-west of the county, an area that had been densely settled at various times since the Neolithic period. A single trench was excavated across the site of the lake, under archaeological supervision. Human occupation of the site environs during the earlier prehistoric period was recorded in the form of a linear bank and ditch, together with the recovery of worked flint and animal bone from a natural hollow.
