Abstract: |
<summary>The survey produced an accurate topographical record accompanied by photographs, a gazetteer and an analytical assessment of the development and operation of the site. Detailed recording of the Hoffman kiln was also undertaken. Large-scale quarrying on the site began in 1860 (the Hoffman kiln was built in 1868), with expansion in 1892-3 and site closure some time after 1907. The kiln, works structure and transport features survive as an integral whole, having undergone little alteration since closure, making the site a well-preserved example of a late 19th to early 20th century lime-works. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
