Abstract: |
Watching briefs were carried out during the excavation of a service trench and the installation of toilets within the grounds of St John's House, which dated from 1626. Within the service trench, the remains of a wall of uncertain date were recorded. This may have been part of an outbuilding associated with the house, or part of a wall enclosing the gardens. Two possible pits of uncertain date and function were observed within the trenches excavated for the toilet block, and an archway within the foundation of the main house was revealed. This was likely to have been a feature of the cellar foundations. 18th-19th and possible 17th century pottery was recovered. [Au(abr)] |
