Abstract: |
Three trial trenches were excavated as an evaluation in advance of the proposed residential development of the site. In two of the trenches evidence of medieval activity was identified, including a layer containing unabraded pottery and a buried ploughsoil horizon. Evidence for post-medieval activity included a stone paved area and layers of dumped material, which included quantities of domestic refuse. The evaluation showed that archaeological deposits from the medieval and post-medieval periods were present on the site. No evidence of medieval structures was encountered, and there were no rubbish pits or boundary ditches within the excavations. The paved area suggested that there might have been a building on the road near here in the post-medieval period. [Au(abr)] |
