Abstract: |
Eleven boreholes were drilled and three test pits excavated within the study area. The evidence revealed indicated that late-Pleistocene chalk solifluction sediments and river gravels formed a wedge of sediment thinning and sloping from west to east within the study area. These deposits were overlain by soft, unconsolidated Holocene sediments that thinned to the west and south. Archaeological material in the form of late Neolithic / early Bronze Age flint sherds and tools were recovered from one of the test pits. Organic remains were also recovered which indicated that archaeological remains were present throughout the study area. [AIP] |
