Abstract:
A desk-based assessment was undertaken to determine the archaeological implications of electricity line refurbishment. A significant amount of archaeological evidence dating from the prehistoric to modern periods had been identified with Neolithic and Bronze Age ritual activity represented by a long barrow and a bowl barrow cemetery. One had SAM status. Prehistoric funerary monuments were concentrated along a former prehistoric trackway. Iron Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon evidence had been recorded and there was potential of further finds on the valley floors. Earthwork remains of five with SAM status were particularly well preserved. Archaeological deposits would have survived in various states of preservation in areas of cropmarks, particularly when there were earthworks. Environmental remains might also be present. A walkover survey recorded that the much of the land was under cultivation, with no earthworks surviving in these areas. A programme of archaeological should be implemented and the visual impacts should be considered, especially with the SAM's. [Au(adp)]
