Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of five dwellings, the conversion of the existing Forge House, and the construction of several garages with ancillary services for which a planning application had been granted. The project recorded a single phase of 20th century activity on the site. A single posthole with post-pipe was observed towards the southern end of the site, and probably represented a recent fence post setting. Groundworks associated with the construction of Forge House, in the mid-20th century, appeared to have truncated natural deposits within the garden area to the north of the house. Several nearby enclosure and possible trackways showing as cropmarks did not appear to continue into the development area. The area did not appear to have been settled in the medieval period.
