Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken as part of the development of the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail. This involved the installation of structures and sacrificial surfaces from the C245 west of Matden Piers to Carr Hill and from Carr Hill to Haltonchesters. The work included the construction of aggregate paths, and the installation of timber ladder stiles, a stone step-over stile, finger posts and a sleeper bridge. The below ground disturbances revealed few archaeological structures or significant deposits and the only finds were modern in date. Therefore there were no detrimental effects from the works, which were carried out in the vicinity of the Wall ditch, Hadrian's Wall itself, Milecastle 20, and the Vallum. [Au(abr)] |
